ANTI-DISPLACEMENT

Since developing our first affordable homes in 2010 up to the present, NEAR has practiced a policy of anti-displacement. We do not purchase occupied properties. We only develop affordable housing on vacant lots and rehab empty, blighted houses. We value every existing neighbor. Our development focus is on undeveloped or abandoned properties for equitable housing.

NEAR does what we are able to help current neighbors remain in place, sometimes by offering owner-occupied repair resources. Since 2008, we have assisted 200 home-owning neighbors to complete repairs that help residents stay and thrive in their homes.

NEAR actively supports and helps implement the City of Indianapolis’ “Growing Together” recommendations for anti-displacement. We are playing a critical role in developing a city-wide community land trust to permanently preserve equitable, affordable housing.
