NEAR works to develop safe, affordable housing options for residents of the Near East community. So far, NEAR has renovated or built more than 100 affordable homes in the St. Clair Place neighborhood, with hopes to replicate this success in other welcoming Near East neighborhoods.
NEAR coordinates the Near Eastside Redevelopment Area, the Near Easdtside Housing TIF District planning, and works with the City of Indianapolis to recommend how resources can be used to spur revitalization in our neighborhoods.
- Energy Efficiency and Lead Safety
NEAR strives to reduce energy consumption as well as lowering energy bills for the residents of the Near East community, with a goal of reducing overall energy consumption by 15%. Through Caulk of the Town, our volunteers weatherize neighbors’ homes each autumn. NEAR is currently offering cost-free lead reduction to 40 households through the Lead Protection Program.
- Umbrella CDC
NEAR serves as an umbrella CDC to help support and grow small, grassroots housing groups–like Treasured Homes–already working on traditional property development activities in Near East neighborhoods.
